A one bed flat in a converted Victorian house in Hackney, comprising of an awkward existing layout at a mere 40sqm and a brief requiring a spare bed for guests. The project didn’t require planning but instead imagination. Using the 3.5m ceiling height; volume was used instead of plan to accommodate the needs of the user. The proposal conceives a central volume – the “box”, to function as kitchen, eating, sleeping and washing. The material palette is restricted to grey MDF and dark marble with colour introduced through pictures and objects bringing life and animation to the space.
